Étienne Dinet (1861–1929) was a French Orientalist painter who converted to Islam and took the name Nasreddine Dinet. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under Victor Galland and at the Académie Julian under William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, and from 1884 made repeated and eventually permanent visits to the Algerian oasis town of Bou Saâda. His paintings of Algerian daily life and, increasingly, of religious devotion are rendered with an ethnographic exactness distinct from the more fantastical Orientalism of his French contemporaries. His work is held by the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée Nasreddine Dinet in Bou Saâda.
