Saul Bass (1920–1996) created the most iconic title sequences and posters in Hollywood history. His Vertigo (1958) poster — a spiralling vortex of red and black containing two falling figures — reduces Hitchcock’s complex psychological thriller to a single image of vertiginous dread. It is widely taught in design schools as a perfect example of conceptual graphic reduction, and remains one of the most sought-after posters in cinema history.
